Faux marble finish will take any floor to the next level

Marble is a luxurious, clean and classy looking material, but it is very expensive. The most natural looking and durable marble-like option is to create the marble look on concrete. Your floors will have the appearance of highly polished marble.

There are a variety of methods than can be used on new and existing concrete floors to transform concrete into marble.

  1. Staining – concrete acid stains are ideal for creating natural-looking marbling effects because they react with the concrete surface to produce light and dark areas that stimulate the colour variations of real stone.
  2. Metallic Epoxies – metallic epoxy floor coatings are like liquid marble for concrete because of their pearlescent qualities and reflective pigments and they are highly versatile allowing you to achieve an endless array of decorative effects.
  3. Burnishing – Burnishing can mimic the highlights and lowlights of marble by producing natural-looking colour variations. It involves hand or machine trowelling the surface over and over again in a swirling motion until the desired pattern and degree of colour variation is achieved.
  4. Painting – Painting concrete floors to look like marble is similar to faux finishing of walls and offers more colour options than concrete staining. The floor is first painted with the desired base colour, and then one or more accent colours are applied by brush or sponge to create veining effects.

A look back at a gorgeous patio project

The professionals at Hardscapes are expert at working with concrete. Their designs and colours make any backyard concrete project outstanding. Stamping and polishing features combined with our artistry can make it look like beautiful custom stonework.

Getting the concrete mix right is critical. For example, too little water and the particles in the mix won’t stick together. But, adding too much water weakens your concrete. When that happens your aggregate or rock that is in the concrete begins to sink lower in the poured area. That leaves the lighter weight cement and sand at the top which can lead to very quick pitting and damage to your poured area.

Not only that, there are a great number of additives you can use to improve the strength of your concrete. Plasticizers and hardeners help it set quicker and fiberglass strands will add strength. It’s very important to get the ratio perfect.
